Provisioning is the process of creating and managing users through their life cycle. A user life cycle includes common use cases such as:

  • An employee joining a company
  • Changing their job function
  • Change in name or profile information like an address or phone number
  • Leaving a company

The OpenIAM Identity Manager provides a number of different tools to allow you to manage user provisioning.  These include:

  • Active Synchronization: Allows you to monitor a source system for change and then update the target systems at periodic intervals
  • Provisioning using the Admin console
  • Self Registration
  • Request/Approval based user creation and management

Regardless of the option that is chosen, a common set of tools in the provisioning engine are used to support these functions.  The rest of this section describes how to:

  • Configure Active Synchronization from a source system
  • Define business rules for synchronization
  • Integrate with target systems to provision users
